Tinkerbell as she appears in the 1953 classic, Peter Pan, is my favorite Disney character of all time. Period. Not unlike the Neverland mermaids ('We were only trying to drown her!'), Tinkerbell's personality is built around stereotypes men associate with women; she's hot-headed and jealous, volatile and suspicious of other women. As a feminist, I should find the direction Marc Davies took when creating her offensive, but if Taylor Swift can declare her insanity to the world and still be a solid babe, I think I can love this adorable little pixie, tantrums and all.
Her personality is best demonstrated in the iconic drawer scene, which happens to be one of my favorites from the movie:
In the age before computers, animators used tangible sculpts and models when working. In many cases, a scene was essentially shot in live action, and the reels used to work from when animating. The following photos I came across show that this scene was no exception!:
The actresses' name is Margaret Kerry and doesn't she look like she's having a blast! Those scissors! I just love the rudimentary, yet charming nature of animation at that time. Kerry also modeled as one of the mermaids. She is of course very old now but released a book last year, Tinker Bell Talks, which I would love to get my hands on!
